"Reflect of Reading habits"

Looking at these images of people reading, I find myself reflecting on how my own reading habits have changed over time, especially as a bilingual reader. The types of books and texts people engage with can vary greatly depending on their purpose—some may be reading for pleasure, while others are studying or staying informed. This makes me think about my own choices when it comes to reading in my first language (Spanish) and my second language (English).

One thing I’ve noticed is that my reading preferences shift depending on the language. In Spanish, I enjoy novels, essays, and opinion pieces because I feel more connected to the language and can appreciate the subtle nuances of expression. On the other hand, in English, I often read academic texts, news articles, and contemporary fiction. My choice is influenced by necessity as well as interest. Many resources for learning and research are in English, so I’ve adapted to reading complex texts in my second language. However, when I want to enjoy a book purely for pleasure, I often turn to Spanish because it feels more natural and immersive.

The format of my reading has also evolved. While I used to prefer adventures books, I now find myself reading more on digital platforms, especially for articles and academic content. E-books and online reading offer convenience, but for novels, I still enjoy holding an adventures book.

Another important aspect of my reading habits is when and where I read. I typically read novels at night when I can relax and focus, while I read academic materials or online articles during the day when I need to study or stay updated. This balance between reading for knowledge and reading for enjoyment is something I’ve come to appreciate.

Overall, reflecting on these images and my own habits makes me realize how much reading is shaped by language, purpose, and format. Being bilingual has expanded my reading choices, but it has also influenced how I interact with different texts. No matter the language or format, reading remains an essential part of my life, helping me learn, explore new ideas, and immerse myself in different worlds.
